How to Prepare Fried Rice Without Frying: Step-by-Step Guide

You can get your fried rice done without frying. The vegan fried rice dish is usually delicious. You can spice things up by adding cilantro, sriracha, and fresh chile. Fried rice is a great side dish on its own, but you can add almost any protein to make it a one-bowl dinner. Pork chops, chicken, pot roast, sausage, or tofu.

For the “No-Fry” portion of the Fried Rice. While the water is heating up, you will be seasoning it and adding vegetables so that everything is ready at the same time. Then scramble an egg or two and add them to the mix.

Step 1: Wash your rice thoroughly before cooking it according to package guidelines or in a rice cooker.

Step 2: In a nonstick frying pan or wok, heat a tablespoon of water over medium-high heat until it begins to simmer. Cook until the carrots, broccoli, and green onions are transparent about 5 minutes.

Step 3:  Combine the mushrooms, corn, pineapple, spinach, chile, and cilantro in a mixing bowl. Mix everything and cook on medium heat. As needed, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of water at a time to keep the vegetables from sticking to the pan.

Step 4: In a small saucepan, combine the garlic, ginger, tamari, and coconut sugar to make the sauce. Stir it for a minute, or until the sugar melts. 12 cups water should be added now.

In a small bowl, combine the cornflour and water. Add the cornflour mixture to the sauce, stir well, and simmer for another 2 minutes to thicken.

Step 5: When the rice is done, combine it with the cooked vegetables in the pan, then pour your sauce on top and stir thoroughly! Serve right away.

  • 12 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1 chopped small head broccoli
  • 2 cups brown jasmine rice, uncooked

Can You Make Fried Rice with Fresh Rice?

Yes! You need to plan ahead and use cooked rice that has been completely chilled. When freshly cooked rice is added to a hot skillet, it will not fry properly and will instead form sticky and mushy clumps. 

The leftover chilled rice is perfect! You can simply make a new batch of rice if you’re pressed for time or have urgent need for fried rice.. 

The rice should then be spread out on a baking sheet or another big flat pan, covered with a layer of plastic wrap, and chilled (not frozen) for 30 minutes in the refrigerator or 10 to 15 minutes in the freezer.
