Absolutely, nothing spells English like a tea loaf. Yes! It does not get more English than this. I might have said in my Jamaican bun article that I am not a big fan of fruit cake, maybe it is high time I admitted how much they have grown on me.

I am always looking for methods to take boring out of breakfast. Add a bit of this and that, and breakfast, especially on a Saturday, becomes an amazing experience.

Ingredients for Tea Loaf

This is also a loaf that comes together fairly quickly with a small quantity of ingredients. First, let’s examine the ingredients needed to make this deliciously fruity tea loaf!

Ingredients for Tea Loaf

Here are the ingredients needed for Tea Loaf’s making:

1. Tea Bags

It won’t be a tea loaf without some tea now, would it? I used earl grey tea bags in this recipe but you can use any other type of black tea.

2. Self-rising Flour

I went with self-rising flour for this recipe for ease majorly. It is simply a combination of plain flour, salt, and baking powder.

3. Raisins, Sultanas, Currants

I wanted a mix of dried fruits in my tea loaf, but you are free to stick to whichever options you best. prefer.

The mix gave each bite of the loaf a blend of fruity flavors.

4. Unsweetened Yoghurt

Adding unsweetened yogurt produces a moist loaf, this can be replaced with sour cream if that is available.

5. Eggs

Whipped eggs add airiness and fluffiness to the loaf.

6. Unsalted Butter

Some fat is also needed to introduce even more flavor to your loaf.

7. All-Spice

A teaspoon of allspice is needed to add a bit of kick and aroma known to this tea loaf.

Sugar is optional for your tea loaf, I skipped it because I was quite generous with the use of dried fruits.

List of Ingredients

The long list for Tea Loaf comprises:

1. 3 black tea bags

2. cup mixed dried fruit cranberries, raisins, sultanas

3. ⅓ cup whole milk

4. 2 eggs

5. ⅓ cup unsweetened yogurt

6. 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted

7. 1 tsp vanilla extract

8. 2 cups self-rising flour

Instructions for Making Tea Loaf

Boil some water. In a large bowl, drop your tea bags, add in the boiled water, and let it sit for two minutes before taking out the tea bags and pouring in the dried fruit. Keep overnight in your refrigerator.

Preheat your oven to 325℉.

In a mixing bowl, start off with the milk and 2 eggs, and whisk until well combined. Add in the unsweetened yogurt, vanilla extract, melted butter, mix until combined.

Go in with the flour and allspice, and mix before adding in the soaked fruit. If the dried fruit did not soak up all the tea, you can add about 2-3 tbsp of it into the mixture.

Pour the batter into your lined loaf pan or dish, transfer, and let it bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. It is ready when an inserted skewer in the middle of the loaf comes out dry.

Coat with melted butter and let it sit to cool before cutting in.
